Richard A. Wayland (Retired)

Richard A. “Chet” Wayland has over 30 years of experience in information management, air quality modeling and data analysis. He recently retired from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) after 34 years. In his past role as EPA, he served as the Director for the Air Quality Assessment Division within the EPA’s Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards (OAQPS) in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. He was responsible for the overall management of national air quality modeling, ambient air monitoring, emissions inventory development, source measurement, and data analysis programs for OAQPS. In previous positions in EPA, he conceived and developed the AIRNow program, oversaw information management systems and developed emissions modeling platforms. He has B.A. and M.S. degrees in Environmental Sciences from the University of Virginia.
