Chih C. Chao, PhD (he/him/his)

Dr. Chih C. Chao is a Principal of Cantech Environmental Services based in Toronto, Ontario, counseling and lecturing internationally on sustainability-related subjects. He is a fellow of the Air & Waste Management Association (A&WMA) and a fellow of the Taiwan Association for Aerosol Research (TAAR). He serves as A&WMA's Technical Council Chair and International Affairs Committee Chair. Before that, in the past 40 years, Dr. Chao has held the positions of a university’s vice president, senior director of a prestigious research institute’s green technology group, vice president of a mega-scale steelmaking group’s environmental company, process coordinator of a crown waste management corporation, and an environment group supervisor of major engineering companies in Canada. As a chemical and environmental engineer, Dr. Chao is keen to work with natural and social scientists to search for and implement feasible approaches toward establishing sustainable low-carbon circular economy systems.

By profession, Dr. Chao is an expert in green low-carbon industrial technologies, material/energy synergy systems, value-added waste/resource circulation, remediation and redevelopment of contaminated land, cleaner production, state-of-the-art waste treatment, etc. His research, consulting, and industrial services span a wide geographic region crossing North America, Europe, and Asia.
