Abstract Description: This paper and discussion have 3 sections. The first section explains how and why the hemispherical weather patterns have shifted from more benign weather to a more dominant episodes of extreme weather. Several examples of extreme weather will be shown and discussed. Examples of heat, cold, drought and floods will be illustrated in easily understood language and pictures. The second section will illustrate several examples of extreme weather that are encountered every day in the US. This will include increased wind blown dust and how this is being addressed in the Mojave desert. Wind blown dust in the west is costly because the solar panels have to be kept cleaned with imported distilled water. The third section is brand new and revolutionary in concept. California has unveiled an ambitious plan to help combat the climate crisis with one of its invaluable assets: Its land. During the net 20 years California will transform half of its 100 million acres into multi-benefit landscapes than can absorb more carbon than is released. It’s called nature-based solutions and will cover natural and working lands such as forests, farms, grasslands chaparral, deserts .and other types of ecosystems and urban environments.
