Abstract Description: The Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) 3-540-07, Operations and Maintenance: Generators, is a comprehensive guide that outlines the necessary preventative maintenance and testing requirements for emergency generators. The UFC 3-540-07 works in conjunction with DAFMAN 32-1062, Electrical Systems, Power Plants, and Generators, to provide engine technicians with the best practices for maintaining and servicing emergency generators. Throughout the UFC 3-540-07, there are references to the Clean Air Act Amendments (CAAA) reciprocating internal combustion engine (RICE) National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) and New Source Performance Standards (NSPS) provisions. These references serve to ensure that generators comply with environmental regulations and standards. However, it is important to note that there are certain sections in UFC 3-540-07 that present maintenance practices that contradict the provisions of the CAAA RICE NESHAP and NSPS. This creates a need for environmental personnel to fully understand the implications of the missing and contradictory guidance in UFC 3-540-07. In order to address this issue and provide clarity, a presentation will be conducted to cover the prescribed preventative maintenance listed in UFC 3-540-07 and highlight the sections that contradict the CAAA RICE NESHAP and NSPS. This presentation aims to promote compliance with environmental regulations and foster a better understanding of the maintenance practices required for generators.
